Pumpkins....

Jason and Reagan were so excited to carve their pumpkins....
They gave me directions as to whether they wanted smooth or jagged cuts....
They were not to happy about all the goop - they didn't like getting their hands sticky
and were very careful about picking the seeds out of the goop....
Jason wanted a SCARY pumpkin....
Reagan cut his gourd into an elephant with tusks....
He was soooo proud of it!!
We carved Elli's with a sweet Raggedy Ann face....
Joshua loves his DOMO stuffed animal and carved his pumpkin into a twin for DOMO....
Trevor and Brandon need to finish their pumpkins and then I will post their pics too!!  Stay tuned....

I had to put this photo in....it is soooo sweet!!  Tired twins after carving their pumpkins....

The search for the GREAT Pumpkin...

This past weekend we headed to one of the local farms in search of pumpkins to carve....
It was funny to see Gramma in her winter coat...those Arizonians get cold easily ;)....

Elli decided to wear her sunglasses....she kept them on most of the day - it was hysterical!!
We talked Gramma into going on the hayride out to the pumpkin patch....
Everyone found a pumpkin they liked....
Trevor found one to laugh at - always the jokester!!!
Elli found one right away...
Jason picked a tiny one for Gramma...so it wouldn't be heavy for her ;)

Despite the face, Gramma loved her pumpkin....
Reagan picked a gourd....and yes, we carved it!!  I think it is the most creative pumpkin we have EVER carved!!!
He is soooo proud of it!!
Tune in tomorrow to see the pumpkins all carved!!!

I heard a story today....
A speaker came out onto the stage. He pulled out a one-hundred dollar bill.
"Who would like this one-hundred dollar bill?" he asked.  Hands shot up all around the room.
Then the speaker crumpled the paper, threw it on the floor and ground the dirt into it with his foot. Holding up the dirty, crumpled and tattered money, he then asked, "Now, who wants this one-hundred dollar bill?"
The same hands went into the air.  "And that is why God still wants you," he continued. "You may be battered and bruised. You may be tattered and torn. You may be crumpled and creased.  But that does not change your value to God any more than what I have done changes the value of this one-hundred dollar bill. You are still precious and valuable to the God who chose you, redeemed you, and loves you as His own."

"He knows how we are formed; he remembers that we are dust" ~ Psalm 103:14

God understands that we are fatally flawed creatures, yet He deems us immeasurably valuable no matter how crumpled and soiled we are.  Thank God!!

Thankful Thursday....

One thing I have tried hard to teach my kids is to be thankful, and to say "thank you".  When Brandon graduated from 8th grade, he recieved an award for his grades.  The teacher that presented him with the award told everyone at the ceremony a story that had to do with Brandon saying "thank you" to him, and other people at the school throughout the school year.  Saying "Thank you" is important.  So, I am going to try to remember to make every Thursday's post about things I am thankful for.

Today, I am Thankful for my mom....she is the most giving person I know....

The Carpenter

Once upon a time, two brothers who lived on adjoining farms fell into
conflict. It was the first serious rift in 40 years of farming side-by-side,
sharing machinery and trading labor and goods as needed without a hitch.

Then the long collaboration fell apart. It began with a small
misunderstanding and it grew into a major difference and finally, it
exploded into an exchange of bitter words followed by weeks of silence.

One morning there was a knock on John's door. He opened it to find a man
with a carpenter's toolbox. "I 'm looking for a few days' work," he said.
"Perhaps you would have a few small jobs here and there I could help with?
Could I help you?"
"Yes," said the older brother. "I do have a job for you. Look across the
creek at that farm. That's my neighbor. In fact, it's my younger
brother!  Last week there was a meadow between us. He recently took his bulldozer
to the river levee and now there is a creek between us. Well, he may have done
this to spite me, but I'll do him one better. See that pile of lumber by the barn?
I want you to build me a fence an 8-foot fence -- so I won't need to
see his place or his face anymore."

The carpenter said, "I think I understand the situation. Show me the nails
and the post-hole digger and I'll be able to do a job that pleases you."

The older brother had to go to town, so he helped the carpenter get the
materials ready and then he was off for the day. The carpenter worked
hard all that day -- measuring, sawing and nailing. About sunset when the
farmer returned, the carpenter had just finished his job.

The farmer's eyes opened wide, his jaw dropped. There was no fence there
at all.  It was a bridge .. a bridge that stretched from one side of the creek to the
other! A fine piece of work, handrails and all! And the neighbor, his younger brother,
was coming toward them, his hand outstretched..."You are quite a fellow to build this
bridge after all I've said and done."

The two brothers stood at each end of the bridge, and then they met in middle, taking
each other's hand. They turned to see the carpenter hoist his toolbox onto his shoulder.

"No, wait! Stay a few days. I've a lot of other projects for you," said the older brother.

"I'd love to stay on," the carpenter said, "but I have many more bridges to build."

Remember This...

God won't ask what kind of car you drove, but He'll ask how many people you
helped get where they needed to go.

God won't ask the square footage of your house, but He'll ask how many
people you welcomed into your home.

God won't ask about the clothes you had in your closet, but He'll ask how
many you helped to clothe.

God won't ask how many friends you had, but He'll ask how many people to
whom you were a friend.

God won't ask in what neighborhood you lived, but He'll ask how you
treated your neighbors.

God won't ask about the color of your skin, but He'll ask about the content
of your character.

God won't ask why it took you so long to seek Salvation, but He'll lovingly
take you to your mansion in Heaven, and not to the gates of hell.

I love you....

This past Friday I went to a Scentsy Party (if you have never tried scentsy you need to try it...you will never light another candle or incense again).  Jason and Reagan were very upset that I was going out by myself and they began declaring how much they loved me in hopes that I would stay home from the party.  It didn't work, I went to the party, but I did LOVE hearing what they had to say.  ;)

We love you more than playing on the playground....
 ....more than our birthday....
....more than going to the Cape May Zoo....
....more than cartoons (they are Charlie Brown and Linus)....
We miss you when you're gone ....

Random pics....

I came across all these cute pictures that I forgot to post - ENJOY!!

Elli watching Trevor's soccer game....
Daddy and Elli on the teeter-totter....
Elli learning to hang from a monkey bar....
Jason learning to balance on a balance beam - look at that smile!!....
Jay and Ray....
Jay and Ray and Elli....
Joshua has had some rockets waiting to be launched, so we took an afternoon and launched them.
Brandon helping to prep the rocket....
We all took turns helping Josh launch the rockets....
We also took turns catching the parachutes as they landed....
Elli just had fun running around....
This is Trevor trying really hard to blow a bubble with his bubble gum.  It was really quite embarrassing because he kept spitting his gum out accidentally - and yes we were in public at Joshua's football game - and yes he is going to be 14 years old in 13 days and he is still learning to blow bubbles with his gum :)....

Look....

Last week, I began telling my kids "Look!"....
Every day since then, I have been telling them "Look"....
Yesterday I said "Look, before it's too late and the season ends"....
It made me think....
This beautiful picture was our backyard in Ohio - the "popcorn" tree was my favorite.  I learned some great life lessons in Ohio.  One of the best life lessons I learned in Ohio was about seasons.  The Bible talks a lot about seasons and how they pertain to life.  Growing up in Arizona, where there is really only 2 seasons, summer and spring, those scriptures were understandable only to a point.  Living in Ohio, and experiencing all the seasons, those scriptures came to life in my heart.
One of the most important things I learned is that seasons don't last forever.  Seasons are only for a period of time and then things change.  The same goes for the seasons of life....they come and go. (I do have to add here that some seasons - in nature and in life - I wish away more quickly than others ;) )
Another equally important lesson learned is that there is beauty in every season.  Some seasons are so easy to find beauty in.  For me, there is obvious beauty in Spring....and Summer....and Fall.  Winter, in Ohio, with Lake Effect snow, took me longer to appreciate.  In time, though, with a good attitude, Winter became so beautiful to me.  The same goes for the "Winters" in life.  There are times when life has its' challenges (I put that quite nicely don't you think? :) ).  I have learned to love and appreciate God's Love and Grace during these times - granted I have to get an attitude adjustment at times to see God's Grace and Mercy and Love and it isn't always easy to adjust MY attitude ;) - but it is during these times that my relationship with God grows tighter and my Faith and Hope and Strength grows as well.
Look before the season ends and it's too late....
(I am in tears as I type this and think I only have 1 and 1/2 years before Brandon heads off to college)
Look....my funny Trevor....
Look...those amazing, beautiful, blessings from God....
Look....crazy boys....
Look....my best and brightest student....
Look....enjoy the season....
Grandma, by the time you get here the leaves are going to be AMAZING!!  Can't wait till you get here!
