Derby Time!!!

The Cubscout Pinewood Derby is an event that our family always looks forward to.  Each Cubscout is given a kit containing a block of wood, wheels and axels, and each scout is responsible for shaping his block into a car.  They have to follow certain rules about weight, and wheel placement.  Then all the cars are raced to see who has the fastest!!  This year Joshua made a $100.00 car, with his face on it...

To make his car, Joshua simply cut his block of wood in half.  So,with the remaining half, the twins, Elli, and I made a car to race.  We made a Valentine's car...
Before the race everyone was sooooo excited!!  (they couldn't sit still that is why the picture is fuzzy ;))
At the race they each got their picture taken with their car, and then they had to go check it in to make sure each car made was made according to the rules...

There were lots of really neat cars there...
One of the other moms made this car (it came in last just like the team -hahaha - sorry Steelers fans)...
Brandon and Chris were the "pit crew" for the night, carefully placing each car in the correct lane before each race (they did a great job :))...
These are all the scouts that raced...
Every race was watched very carefully by the boys...
In the end, Joshua won 1st place in his group, Jason and Reagan won 1st place in the siblings group, and Joshua won 3rd place overall!!!  Elli had a great time clapping for all the winners, especially her brothers!!!
At the end of the evening, Joshua was presented with the Arrow of Light award.  It is the highest award a cubscout can earn, and it marks the ending of their Cubscout years, and the beginning of their Boyscout years!  We were soooooo proud of him!!!!
I want to include here some pictures of Brandon and Trevor's Derby cars.  They participated in a different race a week ago - they didn't win, but their cars were awesome!!!
This was probably our last Derby race - unless the twins join cubscouts - hmmmm.....

I was grinning all through your blog from today (2/24) back to the derby. Loved the pictures and story line, then I came to the picture of the pit crew and the tears started when I saw Brandon in his CAP uniform. He is so handsome and has grown up way too fast. Trevor and Josh are handsome too but thank goodness they are still young enough to be called "cute." I am very jealous of the twins hair. Love those curls. The video of Elli and Daddy playing had me laughing so hard. She is such a tease and beautiful. Miss you all ever so much.
