We travelled again to Fort Dix yesterday to pick up Brandon up from his Civil Air Patrol Encampment.

"During the week long encampment, cadets will attend classes covering topics such as US Air Force structure and mission, aerospace power, and aerospace heritage; CAP emergency services, aerospace education, and the cadet program; and aerospace career opportunities and requirements. Cadets will participate in physical fitness and drill and ceremonies activities daily."

This is a pic of the 120-150 cadets before the pass and review ceremony. Pass and review is basically when the cadets in their groups, or "flights", file by a group of senior officers, and in this case, an audience of parents, and salute them.

So, at the graduation ceremony, they began to announce and give out awards. They were giving an award for "Honor Cadet" for each group. They announced another cadet from Brandon's group, and immediately Chris and I thought - that must be some squared away kid to beat Brandon, maybe its really subjective...

...and then they announced:
Honor Cadet for the 2010 New Jersey Wing Basic Encampment:

Sergeant Brandon Kopp

(they actually said Christopher Kopp, because he's all about awards, and self recognition...but I said it was a glitch in the online application process...)
So - he won for the ENTIRE encampment. The award reads:

"FOR SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THE ENCAMPMENT CURRICULUM IN A WAY THAT DENOTES A HIGHER LEVEL OF DEDICATION AND SUPERIORITY OVER OTHER FLIGHT MEMBERS"
