Back To School!

Yesterday was the first day of school. Brandon began as a Freshman at Revere High School, Trevor began 6th grade at Revere Middle School, and Joshua began 4th grade at Bath Elementary school. Each boy is attending a new school this year. Trevor actually has to get up an hour earlier, as school begins an hour earlier for him now, and he has to take the 6:50 am bus with Brandon.
You may be wondering why I didn't blog about the boys' first day of school yesterday, as yesterday was the first day. We had a crazy beginning to our first day. I spent Tuesday evening baking blueberry muffins. Daddy is at Fort Dix this week for training, and the boys are really missing him, so, I wanted the boys to have something special on their first day of school. We have been having some beautiful weather, so I have had all the windows open, especially at night (I love that!!) Tuesday night, throughout the night, I could smell skunk in our yard. It wasn't a lingering smell that hung in the air, it just came and went throughout the night, so I knew that there was a skunk somewhere. Let me tell you that the smell of skunk, when it is in close proximity, is much more powerful and pungent than when your driving and you get a whiff of a skunk. Wednesday morning arrived, we all got up to have muffins together, and amazingly, we talked about how we smelled skunk that night - then we proceed to let Leah (our mini pincher dog) out to go potty. :( Leah didn't come back for a while, and it wasn't until we opened the door to call her in, that the pungent smell of skunk smacked us all in the face. We knew at that moment, that we had to get Leah inside. We began calling for her, almost in a panic (through all the gag reflexes we were now experiencing), when Brandon spotted her gagging, foaming at the mouth, and rolling around frantically in the grass. It took us a long time to coax her into the house. Now let me backtrack to about a year ago when Leah was sprayed by a skunk for the first time (yes this is her second time being sprayed - we thought she was smart?). The first time Leah got sprayed we didn't know what was going on. We opened the door to let her in the house and the pungent odor of skunk (which actually smells like burning rubber to the 100th degree) kicked us in the gut, and Leah ran all through the house freaking out, and getting that stinky smell everywhere. It took us, literally, days to get the odor off of her (we tried every home remedy available), and out of the house - truly a vomitrocious experience. So this time, we kinda knew what to expect. As soon as we coaxed her to the door, I immediately scooped her up and brought her into the laundry room - which has a huge wash basin sink in it. Knowing that water would only make the smell worse, as skunk stink is oil based, so, water just spreads the smell around. A de-greaser is the key to getting rid of the stink fast. I sprayed Leah with an orange based, biodegradable de-greaser and rubbed her down. Then, remembering a commercial I just saw for Dawn dish washing soap (they were advertising that wild animal specialists now use Dawn to clean the furs and feathers of animals that have been caught in oil slicks), and knowing that I had just taken advantage of a huge sale on Dawn, I asked Brandon to "Get me the Dawn dish washing soap!" As I washed Leah down with the Dawn - to help further remove the oil based skunk stink, and the de-greaser - Brandon, Trevor and Joshua had breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen, made the lunches, and proceeded to get ready to catch the bus. It took a good suddsing and rinsing but I have to say that Dawn saved the day!! I did quarantine Leah to the kitchen for the whole day - which was a huge challenge - and you can still smell the skunk smell in the garage, on the back deck, and in the laundry room (had candles lit all day!) but Leah is good to go. Today, school day #2, it is actually raining and that skunk smell is fading fast - Thank God!!

Don't let this cute picture fool you - skunks are nasty smelling vermin that dig up your yard and smell up your yard. Skunks have two scent glands near the base of their tails. Each one is surrounded by muscle tissue that can contract to spray fine yellow droplets 15 feet or more. Besides the penetrating odor, it can cause temporary blindness and nausea. Even skunks themselves cannot stand the odor. YUCK!!

Hercules: Part I

Hey everybody, Brandon again, and since there has been no progress on any blog in one week, I decided to blog about my day. I had an "orientation flight" set for today at 0700. I decided to wake up at five. I set my alarm, and somehow silenced it in my sleep. So I woke up at 0545, meaning I had to leave in 30 minutes. We were still the first one's there. Mom dropped me off at the airport, where me and some other Civil Air Patrol cadets were transported to an Air Force Reserve Base 75 miles away. There were 43 cadets on this particular flight in a C-130 Hercules. For all you non-airplane types, a C-130 is a very large, four engine, turbo-prop, cargo plane:

A turbo-prop is a propeller that is powered by a jet engine. We took off at 1100, climbed to 13,000 feet, and flew to Niagara Falls. We then descended to 8,000 feet and returned to the Base. During times in the flight, we were aloud to get up and walk around in the cargo bay and on the flight deck. Also during the flight, the hatch at the back of the cargo bay was opened up so we were looking right out of the tail:

We landed at 1230 and were back at the original airport by 1500. Mom then picked me up and we all went home. I then compiled all my pictures and videos of the flight to create another world famous Brandon Kopp video. However I am still missing pictures of the cadets with the plane and Niagara Falls. The video will be posted in part II. Until then...

Ladies and Gentlemen...Reagan Kopp!

Last night I was the fortunate person to hear this song live - this is my new most favorite song ever - and the singer is so cute and so sweet - you'll have to let me know what you think.

I have gone ahead and written out the words for you all so that you can all sing along if you feel so inspired:)

Where was the planes?

I can't hold my computer, but I can read books, and go night night to bed.

Last thing we brought my chairs down here, we can watch Star Wars.

So, so make me happy, make Brando happy, and make Dadda happy.

You make me happy, mamma, happy.

And, you can't sit with the truck, and you can sit with Leah.

But Leah's a big doggie, but Leah's the best puppy in the whole world.

My clothes are in, in Trevor's hand

(Trevor had just brought Reagan's pajamas into the room).

I can't wear my clothes. THE END

Brag Blog #3...CONGRATULATIONS JOSHUA!!

Today was the first day of Boyscout Day Camp for Joshua. It was terribly lonely without him at home today. However, it was wonderfully exciting for Joshua! The theme for the camp this year is "Everyday Heroes". Chris was one of the "Everyday Heroes" to speak at the camp today. He and Joshua left early this morning, along with all of Chris' FBI SWAT gear, for Camp Butler. After the boys were all checked in, about 100 kids, the camp leader settled the boys in for a little meeting before the troops separated and started the days' activities. One of the first things he did was to ask if Joshua Kopp was present, and if he would please come forward. So, our troop leader asked Chris to walk Joshua up to the front. Let me tell you a little story before I go on...A couple of months ago, when we signed Joshua up for camp, a letter was sent out to each boyscout asking for ideas on a patch design for the theme, and the winner would have his camp fee refunded (each boy will receive a patch at the end of the 3 day camp). Joshua was excited about the contest and kept saying he was going to draw up a patch design and send it in. Only, he waited until the day before the deadline to do it. We got it in the mail so that it would be post marked with the deadline date, but I still told Joshua that it might not get there in time. We never heard anything, so we didn't think of it again. Until...this past Monday. We received a letter containing all of the information we would need to prepare Joshua for camp - paperwork, gear, lunch, etc. On the letter was a picture of the patch being used for the camp. As soon as I saw it I said to Joshua "that is your patch". We couldn't believe it - it wasn't exactly the same, the wording was a little different, but other than that, it was his patch design. We were thinking maybe somebody else had the same idea only better, or maybe it didn't get there in time, but they liked it, so they used it. I told Chris and he said that somebody probably drew up a similar patch. So, we just said "weird" and let it go. OK... back to this morning. Chris and Joshua are standing up in front of all the boyscouts, leaders, helpers, parents, etc., and the camp leader proceeds to introduce Joshua as the Patch Design Winner!!! They framed a Winner's Certificate, with his original drawing and the patch, and presented it to Joshua, along with a refund of his camp fee. We are all so proud of him!! We knew you all would be too!!

It was pouring rain when Chris and Joshua left this morning, so we had to take his picture, before departure, in the garage.

This is Joshua (minus all the mud and muck from the day at camp) and his award.

This is a close up of the certificate. You can (sort of) see his original design compared to the actual Patch.

Entertaining Grandma Pauline

I think the highlight of my mother's visit will be all of the shows that the twins put on for her - they love to entertain Grandma! Today, I was ironing some clothes in my room and the twins and Grandma came up to keep me company. They got up on my bed and realized that they could see themselves in the mirror above my dresser. Not being able to resist, they immediately began to perform for Grandma - carefully observing every facial expression and body movement in the mirror. Hilarious!!:)
